As you are aware, at our Board Meeting last week we discussed our School Reopening Plan and a comprehensive guide that we have developed titled "Family and Student Return to School Guide." Both of these documents are now posted on our website under the COVID-19 tab. We have also posted the weekly Coronavirus Test Positivity Rates that are published by the Orange County Health Care Agency.

We are proud of our Magnolia School District preschool students, who are engaged in fun and educational learning at home with their families! Last week, students were given a Friday challenge of “Who could build the tallest structure?” The students and their families created structures using household materials. Once constructed, they measured and submitted the height of their structures to the classroom teacher. The winner with the tallest structure received the honor of selecting the Fun Friday songs to be played in their weekly class Zoom meeting. Magnolia School District continues its partnership with Giving Children Hope, an organization that delivers weekly backpacks to some of our District families. Normally, these backpacks are filled with food and put together by members of their organization and then distributed to Magnolia School District families.

During these unprecedented times, Giving Children Hope is able to deliver the food to our District, but is not able to fill the backpacks. We are very proud of our teachers, who step in and volunteer their time to fill these backpacks for our families each week. The District is so thankful to have such amazing and dedicated employees. The teachers response to the call for help was so overwhelming some of the volunteers had to be turned away. Teachers help assemble the food bags and distribute them to our families.

SACRAMENTO, Calif., (December 11, 2019) – Magnolia School District was selected as one of 57 recipients of California’s leading educational honor, the Golden Bell Award. The Golden Bell Awards, celebrating their 40th year, are presented by the California School Boards Association to promote excellence in public education and school board governance by recognizing outstanding programs and governance practices. The awards reflect the depth and breadth of education programs and governance decisions supporting these programs that are necessary to address students’ changing needs.

The top two spellers from each school participated in the annual Magnolia School District Spelling Bee. It was a very intense competition with words like tapestry, surmised, and trifecta. Congratulations to Bryan Pham from Walt Disney Elementary School who earned top honors as this year’s champion.

The Cops 4 Kids gift-wrapping event at the Anaheim Police Station was a tremendous success. This year Cops 4 Kids is sponsoring 40 of Magnolia families, including those who have had significant losses, such as losing their home or loved one.

On Saturday September 28th, approximately 140 students from the Magnolia School District attended a free STEM event held at the Muzeo in Anaheim. The event was put on by Andrew Needles, the CEO of Clarkson Technologies. Younger students had fun learning about polarity in batteries as they raced toy cars using magnets to propel them.

Thanks to a fantastic partnership between the Magnolia School District, Love Anaheim, the Magnolia Baptist Church and the Anaheim Rotary Club, 100 hygiene kits were assembled and donated to Project HERO.

Thanks to the generosity of the Anaheim Rotary Club, 308 Magnolia students will receive brand new backpacks filled with plenty of school supplies. Rotary members and Magnolia staff members delivered the backpacks to the District on Thursday, August 28th and several students and families were present to receive their backpacks. The remaining backpacks will be delivered to students across the District.

Magnolia School District is proud to announce that Dr. Albert Schweitzer, Dr. Peter Marshall, Dr. Jonas Salk, Juliette Low School of the Arts, Robert M. Pyles STEM Academy and Walt Disney schools were named as 2018-19 California Honor Roll schools by Educational Results Partnership, a data science organization which recognizes high-performing, achievement gap-closing schools across the state.
